Over the past few years, I have been working on and off on a novel based on
the story of Solomon and the Shulamite woman. In the course of searching for
ways to paint a verbal picture of this lovely bride, I highlight some little
things that make her special. One of these things is that she always has a
song on her heart. I originally imagined this little melody as something she
might be heard humming in the vineyard. That was the seed of this song, but
the song became something else, not related to the story. However, you can
still find remnants of inspiration from the Song of Solomon in some of the
lyrics. The 6/8 time is a little unusual for me, probably owing to the fact
that I was conceiving music as someone else might sing it.
